Writing the Obituary
When my husband died, I made it through the first decisions. Then it hit me: now I had to write an obituary. Where do you even start?
If you're in this place right now, I want you to know there is no right or wrong way to do this. You'll probably leave something out. You may feel like the words aren't enough for the amount of love you have for your person.
You might want it to be perfect, but it won't be. Because a lifetime of love doesn't fit neatly into a few paragraphs. Think of it simply as a tribute from your heart. You're helping people understand who your spouse was, the life they lived, and how deeply they were loved.
An obituary is personal. It doesn't have to sound perfect, formal, or like everyone else's. Allow yourself to write from your heart and honor your person in whatever way feels right to you.
